Gena Dinkoff, born 1925 in a village in Bulgaria and migrated to Australia
as a 13 year old, is an elderly resident of Henley Beach. She makes knitted
shoes or 'terlitze' and leggings 'soshone'. Gena knits with recycled wool or
homespun wool. Gena packages her 'shoes' in recycled plastic bags that were
used to wrap her local newspaper, The Messenger. Gena distributes her
'shoes' to friends and family. The multiple colours and simple forms of these
'shoes' speak of thriftiness, creativity and her cultural heritage.
